I appreciate the satire; GWB's environmental record, including water protection, would be a laugh if the matter weren't so serious. As an environmental educator formerly at a wastewater treatment facility, however, I'd rather see the renaming effort as a one-time joke. In perpetuity I don't think the original intent would be understood; it's contrary to our traditions of naming facilities as an honor. If understood, it would become a very stale joke. As others have noted, it'a also an affront to the facility's mission of cleaning up the water (that we mess up through pollution and overpopulation). Wastewater professionals are intent on preventing pollution and returning water for reuse and to the environment in as high a quality as is technologically feasible--which is, in modern plants, very high indeed. I think the current name honors those efforts well, as does the new name of a facility near my new home, Clean Water Services.
