arstechnica.com — Last week a federal magistrate judge ordered the Bush administration to answer some pointed questions about its failure to preserve White House emails as required by federal law. Ars examines what the law requires, what the White House has done, and what the rest of us should do about it.

What we should do about it? We have petitioned by the millions for impeachment - guess it's time to just go in and pull him and his buds out at gun point.

- I work in IT in the investment banking industry and if we pulled something like this, our ass is sacked.- The kid down your street who helps old ladies with their computers wouldn't have developed such a ridiculously asinine system that the white house is claiming they used.- Their explanations and excuses hold less water than the Atacama desertTHIS IS A CRIME

Still a lot though. I wasn't arguing that Bush wasn't a dick and worthy of impeachment. I just don't like it when people make an argument that is pretty dead on but they embellish numbers for no real reason. 500,000 is a f**kING huge number of people protesting. Why pretend it was a million?

The basic question I would ask, and I'm sure most others would as well, is why did they implement the upgrade if it didn't meet the legal requirements? They should have continued with the working system until the replacement was fully tested a met the requirements. My personal suspicion is that they upgraded BECAUSE it didn't meet the legal requirements and they could try to hide behind the technology for failing to meet the legal requirement. So, they are either stupid or criminal (or both).
