chieftain.com — Pilot and programmer Geoff Peck died in the crash of his Piper Arrow in Colorado August 7, on his way home to San Jose from the Oshkosh airshow in Wisconsin. Known as the father of the rec.aviation usenet group, he wrote the code every U.S. private pilot uses daily to translate aviation weather from the archaic teletype format into plain English.
