@ VinceNoir - then your boss is a twit. Seriously. This is one of the more nicely done videos I've seen of Compiz-Fusion, but people should admit it has been done to death (further, it's not news).I get the same functionality (in terms of productivity) on Fluxbox with four virtual workspaces. Maybe even more because I'm saving resources by not having all the overhead.Just because one can have wobbly windows and stuff exploding on screen doesn't mean that one should. Besides, if it's all about "visualizing" virtual desktops, that could be done without the flames and wobbly Windows.(Before you ask, I have used it. It was fun for awhile, and then I got to work.)
...in other words, useless s**t that's neat for the first 3 minutes, but gets very f**king annoying shortly after.Yes, we all know windows can wobble, flame up and down, spin a workspace cube, and do other things. But if you enable this setting, unless you're keeping it on and forcing yourself to like it in some attempt to show off, it will drive you f**king crazy.
Yeah Linux is productive, fun, and efficient depending on what distribution you choose.Gentoo is for the hardcore Linux users, and so is Slackware (I prefer Slackware). Hardcore Linux users may use basically any distro, but Gentoo is not for the faint of heart or technically challenged.
There are plenty of 3D based games you can play on Linux including the recently released Quake Wars: Enemy Territory which is like the thinking man's FPS. Quake's engines are open source so there are tons of user-created FPS games out there begging for people to try them. The world of gaming is not comprised of EA, Rockstar Games, Activision, or Microsoft. Why don't you game a little less and learn more about technology. Then maybe you'll appreciate an OS like Linux and actually become part of a group of people trying to do things differently. I was willing to give up my PC gaming experience. It is no longer the only choice. If I want to game, I have all the consoles to choose from and even handhelds like the DS. I would rather not support Microsoft and the decision they made with DX10 even if it means I can't finish my copy of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion or Bioshock. Big f**king deal. They are just games anyway.
Must be nice not to have an ATI video card. I've been trying all weekend on many different Linux distros to get everything working like it should, but it's not. I'm buying nVidia next time.
yeah, ceejam88, I do agree that it could have been more descriptive. In fact, why not show a default install of something like Kubuntu with Compiz-Fusion... then compare it to Gentoo with custom USE flags, etc. Now THAT would be more interesting. ;)

You can switch it off and uninstall it. In Linux, Compiz isn't a part of the operating system. It's just a program.

Works great on my s**tty 8600 GT.

Yeah, it's great on Intel chips until you actually try to use an OpenGL app. Then it breaks. It's been over a year now. Get an nVidia card and use the proprietary driver which is not broken.http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8732
