consumerist.com— A California woman is suing Geek Squad and Best Buy after one of their techs allegedly taped her taking a shower.

While there were alot of misunderstanding regarding the situation and the timeline, here's a person's comment from the Consumerist post regarding this incidence that I found rather interesting (whether you see it as devil's advocate or open discussion):========================================================================================================================================"Yogambo" says:Seriously something is wrong in the state of Denmark here. So this young woman announces she's going to go shower -- in front of the GeekSquad guy -- and he says "wait, let me please go use your bathroom first" and emits an evil laugh. So he slips into the bathroom first, "plants" a camera in plain view, leaves. Then the young woman come in and takes a shower. This should strike most as a bit odd. Did the house have only one bathroom? Is it possible she would announce this and he'd worm his way in there before her? Okay, it's possible but strange. Then, I agree with this point, why does she notice this and then remove the chip to take it to Verizon? Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought only AT&T-Cingular, T-Mobile and some Sprint phones have chips that are removable. I thought all Verizon phones were programmed. Was the chip a memory card? And why not just watch it right then and there? That seems simple. The answers could be that she couldn't work the phone, wanted to have a real "legit" reason to call this a crime and so went to Verizon for "verification" of the evidence -- must've been an exciting day for that Verizon tech. But it all seems suspect. And yes, most suspect of all is Allred's arrival on the scene. Reminds me of Seinfeld episode with Kramer smoking. Go for the deep pockets.Something smells fishy. :P========================================================================================================================================Before we continue on our flaming or derailing, and jump on any one conclusion... Again, as netizens who have next to ZERO amount of real evidence or even the slightest idea of what really happened, let's just leave the discussion open and keep the discussion STRICTLY on the things we can "see" or "hear" for sure AT LEAST FROM THE VIDEO.
@MeridianknightRight, there have been insults and insinuations on BOTH sides. One group insults the woman and another insults the guy and the company he works for. But this is the internet, so you've got to expect that.My skepticism is based on one single thing - how would you prove that this person did what she says he did? You can claim anything, but how do you actually prove it? Don't bother with the crap about "was anyone else home", "did she leave the door open", etc. The most obvious way would be to show a recording that shows him setting his phone down, pointing it at the shower while its on record. Anything less than that and it's equally possible either party (or no one) did it.The thing you have to keep in mind is neutrality.
@marcuschi So the woman decides to pretty herself up for the ensuing media circus, a story which is guaranteed to be on every major American news station that evening. Oh and she happens to have large breasts; well she must be a whore gold-digger!As for not noticing the camera until she got out, maybe she just likes admiring her form in the mirror above the basin AFTER she's all clean and glistening; because you know, that's a pretty uncommon thing to do ...
@Meridianknight'"You could see him on the video setting it up," Vasquez said. "I was shocked."'Oh, well that clears the WHOLE thing up. At first I didn't believe it because it was purely based on them claiming he did it without them showing any actual evidence. But now that I've heard that they also claim that he did it, it's an open and shut case.
@MattyLiteHEY MATTYLITE, YOU ARE A RETARD, TOOHopefully, that got your attention. While you are trying to cure the retardedness here, you have slipped up and joined the crowds. Why is that? The bit about the video showing him setting it up is yet again purely a claim that has not been verified by the authorities. Until verification is confirmed, you statement about that it "proves" it is retarded. It's like the lady who claimed to have found a finger in her chili. So if she had also said, "and the finger tasted rotten", would you then claim that this "proves" there was a finger in her chili?

It's not that anyone's pathetic for getting help, it's that there judgment in *who* they ask leaves something to be desired...
@treeheadThose are extreme examples, though. You may not go to McDonald's for catering, but do you go to a chain mechanic to get your oil changed? For that matter, do you go to any chain-style company for specialized service? The Geek Squad is, in most people's eyes, no different than Jiffy-Lube or Applebee's or the Vision Center at Wal-Mart. When you need something fixed and it's beyond your expertise, most people go to the chain that they've heard of. Sure, they're not likely to be very good at it (or, as I said in another comment, they'd have better jobs) but they're good enough for people who just want it fixed by someone who can be held accountable.
Why shouldn't she take a shower when there are two other people in the house? According to the story her mom and sister were both there - she wasn't responsible for supervising the guy. RTFA guys, jesus. I don't care how seductive someone is, secretly videotaping someone you just met in the shower = incredibly stupid.Of course hiring geek squad = incredibly stupid in my book too, but still, the creep is clearly in the wrong.
Funny that Digg users, mostly libertarians, are claiming that is all about money. A law was violated yet if a company is involved, it shouldn't make it to courts. However, if libertarians were wronged and thier case didn't make it to court, they'd wave Ayn Rand novels claiming that the government is against them. Time to grow up and stop living life based on novels. Common sense is more valuable and has withstood the test of time. Rationalism didn't.
@ LiterateWolfIf it isn't about money then why sue the company, the technician is responsible for his own actions!A few details don't make sense such as:How did he know she was going to take a shower. Why did she take a shower with a stranger in the house. The time it would take to have a showe, find the camera remove the memory and take the stick to store.Wouldn't the guy know something was wrong and bail?Wouldn't it be a little risky planting a camera phone in a full house anyway? What about the steam from the shower, wouldn't the lense get misty?Oh and don't technicians sometimes call for help if the run into a problem, and what about incoming calls?I'm sure all those have already been asked but the scenario that makes sense to me is that the girls fitted him up!
People like this woman are what is wrong with America. If he did video tape her in the shower, she should sue him, not Best Buy. This woman is part of the reason it is so difficult for people to get jobs... I hope Best Buy counter-sues for damages and wins!In the end, I suppose she's just looking for her $2,000,000 (aren't we all?).
