I don't understand people saying "Wow with that I can play everything at max settings!"I have the predecessor, a GeForce Go 7600 with 512MB in my laptop and I can run EVERY game on full settings. What's the big deal?

Any purchase of this video card is a waste of money with DirectX 10 right around the corner.

Alright, I have a question: Do I, in all honesty, really NEED a DirectX10 card to run DirectX10 games? I'm planning on buying a budget system for college that's designed to be expandable. The idea was to get a 7900GS now and then later add another 7900 when I need it. I mean, that's plenty of power right there, but do the cards NEED to be built for DirectX10 to use it?

First of all, there are no DX10 games yet, and there won't be for quite some time. When DX10 games are finally released, they will definately have an excellent DX9 shaderpath because the transition to Vista for most people, will be a slow one. You do need a DX10 card to support all DX10 features, however things aren't going to be using DX10 features until at least mid 2007.

"Also, would it just be smarter to wait until DX10 and Vista come out?"It's always better to wait until the new generation stuff is ironed out and prices go down. The question is, can you wait that long? If you can wait six months, then go ahead and wait. :)

The GeForce Go 7950 GTX notebooks will just "eat" more energy, causing the battery to last less than one hour

Feh, I don't need this. The ATI FireGl 5200 in my IBM T60 is good enough: renders F.E.A.R. and Half Life 2 on decent settings, as well as the Older games. I have no need to upgrade my laptop. Also, I've never met a gamer who used a laptop as his primary game system. It seems the myraid options of a desktop win over the portability of a laptop. So it seems to me that neither myself nor anyone I know will be buying this.
