blogs.westword.com— Why? Because the plane crashed in Boulder, and there are (apparently) lots of gay people in Boulder, and ... well, we can't follow their nut-bag logic either, but they're doing it, alright?

there should be a federal law that prohibits protesting at funerals. I'm about as pro Bill of Rights and anti-government intrusion as you can get but there isn't one good or legitimate reason why that should be allowed.
I think the point that Rockytop is trying to make here is that this really does not represent the real purpose of Christianity, which is essentially to love and forgive. People like to pick out obscure, outdated passages from the Old Testament to back a point, but if that point is to discriminate or to promote a message of hate then it really isn't a Christian idea.
If you need Christianity to love and forgive I'd be worried by that. Our point is that this is just the "No True Scotsman" argument. It's like when there seems to be an endless supply of young, often well-educated men willing to die for matrydom in Islam. Moderate muslims state "Oh well they're not REAL Muslims. They're just taking the book for their political end." That might be true of their leaders but the young men who actually carry out the deed are some of the most faithful one can be by any objective measure.Surely you must see the hypocricy in denouncing these people's silly beliefs when you have just as little to go on for your own. If you can believe what you want and expect atheists to be quiet about it, especially when you often vote based on those beliefs or use law to force them onto us, you should shut up about the WBC.
you're right. i don't look for the beauty in the bible. why would i expect to find beauty and answers in a book which is not only clearly false to anyone capable of even the least bit of rational thought, but more importantly, preaches hate. hatred towards women and gays. the links you provide are so full of circular logic and bizarre justifications that it astounds me. you condemn homosexuals based on 2 lines in an ancient book that's full of crazy s**t, despite the fact that their behavior hurts no one and does not affect you at all, and i'm the close minded one? You're arrogance and condescending attitude that anyone who doesn't agree with you must be "looking for answers" that you've already found in the bible is insulting and the very epitome of close-mindedness.I only feel pity for you... who can look at clear contradictions (believe me it doesn't take a lot of effort to find them, and there are so many more than the few i posted) and chooses to ignore them or justify them with backwards logic while claiming to have all the answers and calling others close-minded.Your hypocrisy is truly amazing.

First of all, Jeremiah is from the Old Testament, so those cannot be the words of Jesus. Secondly, I am clearly wasting my time because you are close-minded and only want to hear about the atheist perspective on the Bible instead of gaining enlightenment. Here are some responses to your "contradictions"<a class="user" href="http://www.tektonics.org/gk/godangry.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.tektonics.org/gk/godangry.html</a><a class="user" href="http://www.carm.org/bible-difficulties/luke-john-acts/was-jesus-witness-himself-true-or-not" rel="nofollow">http://www.carm.org/bible-difficulties/luke-john-a ...</a><a class="user" href="http://www.tektonics.org/gk/jesusjudge.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.tektonics.org/gk/jesusjudge.html</a><a class="user" href="http://www.carm.org/bible-difficulties/job-song-solomon/can-we-call-someone-fool-or-not" rel="nofollow">http://www.carm.org/bible-difficulties/job-song-so ...</a>I only feel pity for you who has time to look for contradictions in the Bible, but has no time looking for answers in the Bible. So you see, I am not copping-out. I really just don't want to waste my time trying to guess what you think is a contradiction. But please, I hope this will at least peak your interest into the beauty of the Bible and maybe you'll find the answers that you're looking for in there.
