joystiq.com — Xbox and PC nerds who've always wondered -- really wondered -- whether controller does or doesn't pwn keyboard and mouse, and come May 8th you'll get your chance to find out. That's right, we're talking about Games for Windows Live, which pits PC gamers and Xbox gamers in epic battles of Halo 2, Shadowrun, and, um, Uno.

he could just be saying that to sell more copies of Vista. I hope not as I want PC gaming to return to it's former glory.

Dude, your a PC gamer. Get used to it. Go buy a new motherboard at a good PC shop (not a futureshop, bestbuy etc) and you can get VISTA ULTIMATE 64 BIT for like 150 bucks.Thats nothing compared to the 300 for new motherboard, 300 for good ram, 900 for a good video card etc etc etc...Me, I've switched to gaming on the xbox 360 and Im quite happy. Im actually about to go play a new game right now. It will take me 1 minute to unwrap the dvd, and 2 minutes later I will be playing the game online. No install, no driver patches, no troubleshooting, no setting my video... no launching xfire to find people to play, no video cards to buy, etc etc etc But if you want to be on the bleeding edge of PC games as I have always been then the price of a vista upgrade is the price of being a PC gamer. Get used to it. Or go out and buy an XBOX 360.

@aviConsoles get the benefit of ridiculous auto-aim. Just look at every shooter game ever made for a console.

Microsoft Can't give Live away for free, otherwise it'l PO the 360 players. What this might do is allow 360 players to get interested in the PC, since their Live accounts carry over (Or at least Microsoft is probably hoping so). It's not so really important to them to get PC users on Live, but rather to get 360 users onto the PC / Vista. That being said, it would be fantastic if they threw in Halo 2 with your Games for Windows Live Subscription. That way it wouldn't be too much to Swallow for PC gamers. The price tag is pretty fair. A service that doesn't really provide pc gamers with much more than they are used to for free, and a Several year old Console Port. But I'm not holding my breath as it's pretty rare nowadays for any company to make smart / strategic moves like this.Aggies

If this year's batch of PC games is any indication at all, PC gaming's glory has never really left in the first place. As a platform, comparatively, we have the best line-up of 2007, easily. :)
