PBC Productions, the people behind The New Adventures of Captain S, have just released this first portion of their documentary centered on the events and outcomes of NYC’s recent Gamers Against Violence rally. Not only does the piece touch on how media-savvy opponents of the gamer lifestyle vilify the gaming public via misrepresentation, it also goes out of its way to show members of the “hardcore” community as they overwhelmingly are: motivated, cerebral, social individuals who see gaming as more than an idle hobby but far less than hyper-violent escapism. While it’s a little odd to think that this film comes from the same light-hearted individuals that taught us that “everything gets the kick,” this too serves to reinforce the idea that geeks and gamers are far more than one-dimensional.
