"Wait wait, I thought GAIM 2.0 Was to fix all our problems..."Exactly the problem here. This is 1.5 minus a few good customization options and plus an ugly bunch of buttons on my buddy list. This was supposed to have video, voice, direct connecting, etc. I haven't tried the Y! doodling, but if it works, it's probably the only thing that does.
Ahem.. BETA.. it is not final yet. I'm sure when it is final you will get all your Voip and crap like that..Still BETA is used quite allot for final products, like GMail for example.
I was thinking about doing Miranda instead, but it won't seem to connect to my AIM account. Also, Miranda has all sorts of buddies on my list that were deleted a long time ago on Gaim, but I guess Gaim doesn't communicate with the server correctly to actually delete them?
Cons:- No audio- No video- Crappy UISo.... What's new with this v2beta? Nothing significant. Guys, why'd you released it under V2 beta? Why'd you not released as v1.9beta or something else?I believe they try to attract people with shiny new version number. Yea.. they do, but in a negative way.Don't think i'll switch to or even try it later. Sorry GAIM guys, you're loosing respect and gaining too many negatives. You must work on it harder.Good luck.
"Try to send a file? Doesn't send.Try to direct-connect, doesn't work."Why would I want to send a file or "direct connect" to someone? If I want a small file, you can email it to me. If I want a big file, you can FTP it to me. I want my instant messenger to be really functional and useful for chatting. I don't want it to be my video phone, internet phone, file transfer utility, email client, IRC client or anything else.Whenever a chat client fails to accept or send a file, I consider it a bonus feature. Plus - how often do people really send pictures and crap over "aim" to begin with?!
Hey guys, I don't know if you know, but Gaim 2.0.0 (not beta) will probably be the version that has your f**king audio/video garbage. The beta doesn't seem to include the optional --with-vv flag to check out gaim-vv, but it's on the CVS version. Give it time; it's not finished yet...
"I think you've confused the word "community" with "whining bunch of ungrateful jerks".Don't like GAIM? Don't use it. Think Trillian PRO is better? Great, but we don't care, this isn't a story about Trillian PRO is it?"Nor is it an advertisement for GAIM, it's just a story. Users giving there opinions about this and any software in the genre is what makes digg my first choice to check before downloading software.
i don't know about some of you, but i grew out of wanting my computer to look pretty in high school. now i'm more concerned with my programs being functional and not a pain in the ass to use.a friend recommended trillian so i tried it out. a pretty gui can only do so much for an IM client that can't even display html links in somebody's profile. i'd also rather be able to find the scrollbar in its track when i want to, instead of clicking around blindly in a sea of pale blue for the damn thing. if you have a problem with the gaim developers not putting their effort toward making it blingy enough for your liking, go write your own program and let everybody else bitch it down.if you want something that works, go with gaim.if you want something pretty, go with trillian. or, grow up.i do have a question though, anybody know if it is (or will be) possible to revert to the old away message style (with a menu and separate window)? i like having the window there to remind me that i'm away, so i don't end up "watching the new south park" for days at a time.

So does this steaming pile actually have keyboard shortcuts now, or do the developers still cuss you out for asking about it?
