GTA isn't for everyone, there's no refuting the violence, language, mature themes. It's definitely not for kids, even some adults can't get over the theme despite good gameplay. Honestly... they're entitled to that opinion as much as you are to yours. I don't agree with Variety's "don't judge before seeing" quit either. It's kind of silly as everyone knows Rockstar likes to push the envelope and you can already assume how bad it is for children. I don't know why people jump to defend it so quickly, it is what it is... rockstar likes the controversy... let them defend it.
What they are trying to do is only slightly removed from book burnings. Legislating morality and forcing your religious dogma onto on unwilling public is a (potential?) violation of our civil rights to pursue happiness. It's not like this is a Public High School course that everyone is forced to partake in. This is a game made for ADULTS and is marketed as such. As an adult I should be allowed to view/play this game If choose to do so. I don't see what business someone else has making my decisions for me.And for ***** sake, with all the REAL death and violence going on (IRAQ ANYONE) you think this video game is a problem? Wake up.
Hold on 1 f**king minute. I don't give a f**k about the critics. I'm not 17 and have played all the GTA games. Now do you see me with a Uzi, beating old ladies, and jocking hoes. NO! I say to the kids that can distinguish real from fake to go f**k themselves. If you can't handle seeing animated violence I don't think you can handle being alive.
It saddens me to see another game in this lame series get over-hyped and over-rated. If there is one gaming series that I truly hate and can't grasp why any one would like, it's the GTA. I just never got the appeal of running around, playing a degenerate gangster in a stupidly-realized city environment and doing a bunch of silly, timed side-missions. Plus, these games have zero moral reproach. Every character is a thug or a whore. They represent every thing that's wrong with this industy and why games are still oftern looked down upon in this society. Lame, lame, lame.it saddens me to see another game in this lame series get over-hyped and over-rated. We all knew that politicians, the media, and so-called "social activists" were foaming at the mouth, waiting for GTA4 to be released. But just like comic books, music, and many other video games, GTA4 will survive the lynching and be remembered for what it was: a revolutionary gaming experience.
True games alone do not cause kids to act out in violence, however, they do further degrade their view of what is acceptable and proper. You admit yourself that parent generally don't know what their kids are doing. There is no harm in governenment and advocacy groups pushing to limit access to mature games, movies, music through a legally enforced decree. MAKE the parents take the responsibility rather than allowing the system to be circumvented due to a lackluster voluntary policy.

When the video game generation gets into politics. The problem is that politics is mostly old men and women who have no clue about video games.
