Using the term liberal to describe Ron Paul is misleading. Ron Paul is a classical liberal, which is a very different position than modern liberalism.

I was referring to Ron Paul. He's fiscally-responsible (apparently) but he's a nutty religious.

If you still think capitalism is the cause of the meltdown then you have a lot of learning to do.Capitalism didn't cause the housing bubble, artificially low interest rates and subsidies from the government did. The current political norm turns a blind eye to the horrific amount of fraud that takes place on wallstreet and they insist that by regulating it the fraud will be reduced. This instead of going after the fraud. Ron Paul would want to protect property rights and prevent fraud. If wallstreet was unable to lie or mislead, and if the government and fed didn't make it so cheap to borrow money, then we wouldn't have had a housing bubble, and housing prices would have been growing very slowly or maybe even decreasing.

Point well made, Regeya, and *I* dugg you up for it. You're right, bashing the GOP does not necessarily make a person a DNC supporter - and it is probably an over-simplification to make that assumption. Yet, in today's partisan, "with us or against us" environment, the most vocal opponents of the Republican party can generally be counted on to be Democrats (and, vice versa). I'm even inclined to agree with you about Paul. My personal politics are that President of the US has become as much of a figurehead position as Queen of England. "Get up there, wave, look pretty, and sound good - but if you try to actually make any policy decisions, we'll cut your nuts off". So even if Obama, Paul, or whoever else *intends* to go in "making a difference", I think their day-1 briefing consists of, "Ok, so, the whole thing is a stage-show, now here is what you want to do if you don't want to make it through the next 4 years".
