venturecake.com— Despite all the noise made about improving the cross-platform image editing tool, people seem to have missed that GIMP's own developers are planning on UI improvements.

Agreed. Floating windows are inefficient for actual graphical work. These people who say they prefer it probably aren't anywhere near professionals nor do they have similar habits. I'm not saying floating windows aren't a legitimate preference. It might be for some, but for most it is not. If you don't agree with this tell it to the people who do this for a living and the ones that create the software they use. Photoshop, most any commercial graphical editing program, pretty much any 3d creation program. But no, right, argue against this. I'm sure the initial vision of the Gimp programmers was infallible in everything, even in their opinion of how graphic artists should work. Now they're just being capricious! Bah.
Agreed 5000%. It is quite possibly the worst named application in history, and it's incredibly difficult to get anyone to take it seriously in a professional environment like the web development company I work for.I mean, seriously. Everyone knows it's an acronym, but it's a *terrible* one. I sincerely don't think GIMP will ever get widespread acknowledgement until it dumps its horrific name. And of course has a better interface, which is what this page is all about.I get the impression the majority of its supporters simply don't understand the importance of branding and product perception.
Hang on, hang on, I've been told by Linux fans that I just need to 'get used to it' and that the interface is fine, and it's just me, and now they are redesigning the interface? If it was fine before why change it now?!?
GIMPShop didn't do anything except change a few menu labels and move the menus around a bit. Whoop-de-do. I'll stick with vanilla GIMP or this new UI, which is actually an improvement.
It seems to be in acive development, he just doesn't release packages often... well, not at all for the last few months, as you've said. He still says he's working on it (in the forums), so maybe, in about 5 - 10 years, we might see a fairly stable 1.0 version with packages for people to download (especially for those who paid for it).
It's called progress. Humans used to live without electricity, running water, modern medicine, digg, porn, etc. Then people figured out these things might be better so we're giving them a shot. Hell, if they don't work out we can always go back to the forest, right?
For the new user, like myself, I think The Gimp is the Bees Nads! It is the only really famous piece of Open Source I have ever heard of that has no sponsors? If there are things that people would like to see added (be they beginners or experts) I think some serious respect and a lot of "please" is the only way to consider treating The Gimp. Just admit it............it's brilliant!!

Here's an Idea, we should have the OPTION to use it in single window mode or not.

UI looks fantastic. The only thing left for me is to make it easier to modify brushes, it's a pain in the ass the way it is now.
