the old one had some good episodeslike Saga of a Star World, and the The Lost Planet of the Gods are both goodthe one with the Pegasus is good too. It had some stinkers, but what show doesn't.However, Battlestar 1980 is an absolute abortion and needs to be removed from history

Well, I won't have to buy any sleeping aids after this show airs. They did a very good job at saying what the show is "not" but they left off "entertaining."

Sanman, exactly! In all of the good sci fi books I've ever read the story is more about the characters than it is about space or robots or whatever. Even in Asimov's stories he's more exploring current society and the impact technology has on it. So, yes, space opera is exactly what most science fiction is. It's really like any other fiction but with a bit of a twist.

Prior to BSG, Space: Above and Beyond was my favorite SciFi show. It still pisses me off that they ended the first season with a cliff-hanger and never brought it back for another season.I don't know why you got dugg down for such an innocuous comment. Must be the Star Trek fans or something.

Its based on a bad tv show from the late 70s. :)And its a pretty damn common theme in scifi regardless.
