chron.com — ...the average user doesn't even think about Microsoft; he or she just fires up the PC and gets to work or play. But that may be changing. Increasingly, I'm hearing real discontent from the masses about Windows, and it doesn't have much to do monopolistic practices, ripping off ideas or a lack of innovation

Video editing is not my job, it is a hobby I enjoy. And it is the reason I bought the Mac in the first place.Things I could not do on my Mac that I could on my PC:Network it properlyKeep it from crashingFigure out why it crashed while downloading the new iTunes updateGet Bootcamp to work (moot point but annoying non the less)Repair it myself when the sound card crapped out (and our local Apple Service center people are Morons)The "Mighty Mouse" just felt wrong when I was using it, I had to get anotherRun any of my software I already ownedOne day Motion just decided to die and I had to reinstall it, no idea why.The lack of an uninstaller boggles my mindWhy in the name of all bizergot does the dashboard take so long to load? There is probably more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head

Fair enough. I'm the opposite, after 10 years of windows i crossed to the mac side about 3 years back and couldn't be happierPersonal preference is fair enough but it's annoying when someone dives into the OS for two minutes and hates it for not being how they think it should be. Enjoy your windows.Just our of interest, what couldn't you run or find alternatives for?

It appears to me that you've just had bad luck. Hey, it happens sometimes. I haven't experienced the crashing problems you are describing or unability to connect to a Windows machine, etc. OS X has it's problems though. If you disconnect a connection to a machine that you are sharing a folder from via smb, Finder will be locked for minutes until the connection finally times out. That is because Finder uses old old code. It's been left behind by Apple unfortunately.

"I am aware of that thank you.it would only work about half the time, and never on the servers before installing that other software"If I remember correctly, you have to have an account name on the Windows machine that equals the acount name on the Mac. Was that the issue? Also, it is possible that there are issues with your router that makes it difficult. There are a lot of factors at play so I don't know if it's fair to necessarily blame OS X for that. When I connect to a shared folder on my Windows box it works 100% of the time.

that could very well have been it. As I said, Our local Apple Support personnel are not known for their intelligence. They are however known for their Holier-Then-Thou attitude when it comes to anything related to computers.

The Zune is not selling in the same numbers as Mac computers... Apple sales almost 2 million macs each quarter and MSFT hopes to sell 1 million Zunes in almost 3 quarters.

That is the reason why I got my Parents a use G3 iMac. A few years ago. They had windows for a while and they were getting infested almost all the time. I Put OS X on it with Safari blocking popups and it is working better then ever. On windows if you click the wrong link you can get infected. On OSX you go this is not what I want and you click back. You can't teach people who are not willing to learn how to browse safe on the internet. Using OS X will at least give them a fighting chance. I had my parent try Linux as their first OS. And I get to many What does this mean, how do I do this, why cant I do that. Then I gave them windows then I get a call once a month or so saying this is broken how do I fix it. Then after the Mac they call me to see how I am doing, nothing about the system. And they do use it. I had one issue a while ago where a Java Program was still running in the background so I had them reboot (easier then telling them how to kill a process over the phone) and it was all good, apparently they haven't turned off the computer sense I gave it to them 6 months before that they just put it to sleep. So when that Java Program got suck in the background in its endless loop. It slowed down the computer. But that was it. You can say how Apples are just as Bad as windows for security and reliability. I just know you are wrong.

Well what were you trying to do? I will agree that macs are not for everyone and there are reasons to stick with windows. But did you even attempt to ask about your problems on the internet. There may be a simple solution out there. I remembered when I got my first mac I was trying burn a CD and I was hitting roadblock after roadblock. Because I was trying to do it the same way as in Linux then I realized I just need to put the disk in and drag the files to CD-Burner. Or use Disk Utility to burn and ISO.When ever you change OSs you will need to learn to do things differently and realize there are some things you cant do in one OS that you can do in others. Like Windows doesn't come with any good scripting languages by default. So I can run scripts without having to get a 3rd party tools.
