technology.monster.com — I am completely frustrated with the whole mass confusion that exists as part of the IT/Web Job Search...I want to open a discussion between recruiters, job seekers and big resume sites, to help clear this confusion up...

I've always looked at job titles as simple extensions of ego myself. In reality no matter what field your in, the name of the job has varied over time. 'Waste Management specialist' as an example, because for some reason 'Janitor' was no longer respectable or wanted on a resume. In reality I think for the IT world, the best bet is certifications with some sort of grading system. College degrees would be nice, but lets face it, colleges are WAY to slow to keep up with technology. And most of the certification tests that I've taken are a complete joke. If one to two nights studying is enough to pass the test, it's a bad test. Passing the MSCE over a weekend without ever studying was a huge dissappointment. To really title or slot someone there need to be tests to actually measure someones abilities in that area. Not a pass or fail, but an actual measurement. And difficult enough that a perfect or even near perfect score would be nearly impossible.Once something like that is created, then we can start working on HR people that are hiring tech workers without the slightest clue as to what the qualifications are. (Wich is why you see job listings asking for 5+ years experience with systems that have existed for less than 2)

lol that is so true...For example, I have worked with oracle abit as part of working with programming web applications. And a recruiter doing a word search, submitted a job to me as an Oracle Developer/Dba.Does everyone start to see what a mess this whole situation is?I agree about the ego part, but how can we clarify to recruiters and employers exactly what we can and can not do, so as to help all of us find the best match?
