fresnobee.com — Students will be using these to maintain their digital portfolios of essays, drawings and creations. I sure hope they install Inkscape on them. It's interesting that the school district is trying them out at all school levels -- elementary, middle, and high school. Some teachers are not thrilled about the purchase.

There is an Edubuntu. However, the EEE comes standard with a customized Xandros install. Not that I'd expect an elementary school kid to do it, but other distros can be installed. There's a large Eee hacking community.

Cool, I live here in Fresno and didn't even hear anything about this until now. Better than the $1,800 Lenovo "Laptop Program" my little cousin just went into that my aunt forked out for.
