computerworlduk.com — France’s ministry for education has migrated 2,500 servers across its 30 local education authorities to Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The ministry said that in order to avoid the growing costs associated with proprietary licenses and forced upgrade cycles it was migrating to open standards-based software and hardware solutions.

Congratulations! Working in a shop currently that uses mostly open source apps/OS's, I can say that it's not even REMOTELY as scary as many current MS shops would have you think. I used to work in an MS shop, and the prospect of moving to open source seemed utterly ludicrous when using MS products was what I was used to. After having been in both MS and non-MS shops, I can say that I much prefer the non-MS shops now.

They are migrating from AIX/GECOS/DPS7 Servers. Nowhere in the article did they mention Microsoft/Windows.

$800/year gets you email support, updates, and rights to use. Updates are free from MS and you don't have to keep paying to keep using. I support all platforms and am not an MS FanBoy as you claim. I'm looking at the bottom line here. I'm sure RedHat roped em in with some ridiculously discounted license/support which if MS did it would be a violation of their anti-trust agreement. The point of my post is that to run a *supported* platform like RHEL or SUSE they are unlikely saving *any* money on licensing and are likely spending far more.

You don't have to keep paying to use RHEL either. You don't even need to pay for updates. Quit crying and accept the fact that you get what you pay for.

Good news for Linux. I wonder how long it took to make the migration with that 35 hour work week?

Then why did you bring up Microsoft especially when they migrate to Linux From AIX/DPS 7/GECOS? Using Linux and being a MS trolls aren't mutually exclusive.
