ft.com — As someone who lived under communism for most of his life, I feel obliged to say that I see the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity now in ambitious environmentalism, not in communism. This ideology wants to replace the free and spontaneous evolution of mankind by a sort of central (now global) planning.

I wish we had more political leaders like this that are free thinkers, and not influenced by a knee jerk, herd mentality. Lets give all scientists room to explore the truth (Pro and Con), and not shout down people that do not say what we believe is truth, after all, what do you really know about this science? You know it could be that this truth you have been given is part of a greater plan to remove your rights and give certain people/agencies more power over you and your life. What is the old saying? The path to hell is paved with good intentions.

When I approach someone on the topic of "Global Warming" the responses I get are a regurgitation of the popular media hype of the subject. Mostly word for word sound bites. President Klaus' view is very refreshing in it's openness. He is not opposed to the idea of global warming, however he understands the undercurrents at work.
