the only thing i use to recover my stuff is R-Studio ... and ive used that to recover MANY files from many different things .... CF cards, SD cards, Hard drives, and Ipod .. all with success. it scans each sector of the media for any remnants of data and will save it... personally i wouldnt suggest anything else (although its not free, but you get what you pay for!)
it also needs something to blend away comments that are senseless in a personal way, but not bad enough to thumb them down. i always appreciate some comments though... others are really helpful.
I realize that data recovery is a prominent concern for many. Recovery is reactive, why not take a proactive approach and back the data up so that when there is a problem, you can simply restore the lost data. No fight, no muss, no fuss.
