You gave them your voicemail pilot # when you signed up remember? Thats how they send the voicemail to you w/o ringing your phone, this is so everyone can use the service, even those who don't receive SMS, or those who don't want to pay 10 cents for an sms from them.

this is an amazing feature. I am excited about it and really hope it works the next time some one decides to block their call. - quitstalkingme.com

Originally posted on wired.com: In response to a comment about the security threat of unmasking services on women's shelters belief that these services provide a means for men/women to threaten or cause physical or bodily harm to individuals with protective orders or involved in domestic battery situations. The simple FACT is -there are a number of ways to protect yourself against these types of service if you believe you are in danger or a victim. The simple FACT is: that VOIP providers are not regulated by the FCC in the same way as traditional carriers and they are treated different in the eyes of the government. These services have many legitimate uses, and are routinely used by law enforcement, private investigators, fraud detectives, ect.@Chris: I live in the Land of Lincoln – as have previously worked for numerous Telecommunications companies, Competitive Local Exchange Carriers, and have personally worked on both sides of this issue (providing consulting services across the country. I have assisted law enforcement agencies; government, private companies, domestic shelters, women’s rights groups and attorneys on both sides of the courtroom. So to answer your question, specifically in Chicago where one of my offices is located, Lisa Madigan’s –the attorney general for the state of Illinois has provide a number of services to those individuals in abusive relationships http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/dvsa/violen ... The volunteer programs you are referring to and I have personally donated old cellular phones to; have in the past provided analog and digital phones to the Elderly, women or men in abusive relationships (so that they can call 911 in the event of an emergency). As for women’s shelters, many of the nation’s largest providers allow the outbound number # to be blocked before it hits the SS7 network in most cases, so services such as Trapcall simply will not work. Furthermore, if someone is especially scared for their safety, a simple calling card -that again Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and other providers graciously donate to these types of groups, and receive government money to defray the costs . If your community needs assistance with how to prevent services such as these from operating, I would be more than happy to speak with you regarding low cost or free government programs that can help your cause.
