sheerboredom.net— This simple guide shows you a couple tools helpful to logging into wireless networks whether they have encryption on our not.

No digg. Tutorials come with just about every tool that breaks WEP encryption. If you need something this detailed to learn how to break WEP, you probably need to go learn more about wireless networks in general first.
What is the best way to keep your wireless networked secured then? Right now I'm just using a mac address filter. I can use WEP, WPA, WPA-2, or WPA-auto, which one is the best? Would it be a good idea to set up all static ips and only allow those access to the internet?
I can't stand when you all share this information with the masses. Now people who had no clue before are going to be able to bite off chunks of the connection that I pay a pretty penny for every month. You should be posting things about how to protect your signal not find others!
teamgreen02:WEP can be broken and WPA is not supported by all drivers if you have Linux clients. I use mac filtering to make it more difficult for unauthorized users to use my WAP and then use openvpn (<a class="user" href="http://www.openvpn.net)">http://www.openvpn.net)</a> to create a secure connection from my wireless laptop into a server on the wired internal network. It's not trivial to set up, but if you read the docs it's do-able. What I'd ultimately like to do is use nocat (<a class="user" href="http://nocat.net/)">http://nocat.net/)</a> to set up my own access point from which I can allow people access access to the outside world without giving them access to my internal network, control bandwidth usage, make people sign a usage agreement giving me some protection from liability (same as a for-pay access point) and so forth. Then I'd remove the mac resctrictions and go ahead and give passers-by access. Like a lot of people I don't mind sharing my net connection as long as doing so doesn't expose me to a great deal of risk.Personally, I think this article is stupid and agree with those who point out that circumventing WPA/WEP != free internet (though I do tend to assume that wide-open WAPs where no attempt has been made to limit access are intended for public use).Besides, I refuse to take seriously anyone who uses phrases like: "tweak your internet to go faster".
What you need to run is a tool that sets off an alarm when A) there's a duplicate ethernet address sending packets through your network (assuming you have mac filtering turned on), B) when your router's DHCP server is being requested for an IP address. Then the tool can either be set to dynamically deny the ip address or you can manually do it your self.I wrote this tool for a friend of mine that lives in an apartment complex and it's always booting people who try to get onto his network.
Hi,I was using wireless connection without any issues. Now the same network connection is protected by password and secured.Could you pls let me know how do we connect to secured networks without password.Mahesh

I'd love to use WPA2 over WEP, but I have a Nintendo DS and it only supports WEP at the moment...

kismac does not work in passive mode with airport extreme....can anyone suggest anything else?

Nothing new here. I know that people do that, and have seen them in action. Still, pretty useful in case of emergencies.
