nzherald.co.nz — Wake up and smell the coffee - that frappuccino you just drank contained more fat than a Big Mac and a medium Coke combined. A survey of national coffee chains Starbucks and Gloria Jean's Coffees, published in this month's Consumer magazine, reveals your coffee break could see you breaking the scales.

I think we're all missing something here, it's called moderation. All good things in moderation, to be more specific. Sure we have some fatty treats that we like, but you won't have a problem if you make sure to balance them out with a good diet and some exercise. Feel free to treat yourself now and then, it's overindulgence that will kill you. Gluttony, it's not just a sin, it's a killer.

Taurine is nothing special. It's just a regular old amino acid, although not one of the 26 amino acids in your genetic code. <a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurine">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurine</a>

@fullglHave to agree with you on this one, since when did a cream and caramel filled thickshake become considered a 'coffee'?

Dude, that article includes the whip cream in their calculations. I never get whip cream with my frappacinos because the whip cream is where 70%+ of the fat comes from.

This article is inaccurate, I'm drinking one right now that says "A lowfat creamy blend of starbucks coffee and milk" and it says 30 calories from fat, with 3g total fat. Compared to the Big Mac's 270 calories from fat, and 30g total fat. Article reported as inaccurate.Sources:<a class="user" href="http://www.mcdonalds.com/app_controller.nutrition.index1.html">http://www.mcdonalds.com/app_controller.nutrition.index1.html</a>Also back of label of starbucks frappuchino

I'm a Starbucks employee and you can get frappucinos that are actually less calorie rich than some of the coffees they offer. Also, they looked at the most fattening drink from Starbucks, a venti (large) white mocha. Most drinks there average 400 kCals, but they're made by default with 3.25% (homo) milk. If you ask for say a large latte with non-fat milk, that's only going to set you back about 500 kCals (with vey little energy coming from actual fat). A frappucino's calories are not 70% from the whip cream, but closer to 30% or so. And all the coffee-based ones are the healthiest (light options are available for 30-40% less calories). So actually, no, a Big Mac has more calories (and more fat) than Starbucks drinks.

Unless I misread, the frappucinos that they listed had only around 180kj more than the coke, and the only thing they listed that had more than the big mac and the coke combined was the White Hot Chocolate from Starbucks and the Gloria Jean's Creme Brulee Chiller. Bad titling.I too am marking this as inaccurate.

I thought they were talking about Frappucinos, which (correct me if I'm wrong) contain expresso...
