24weblog.com — Fox is releasing a DVD of the first four episodes of season six on January 16th. The episodes air on the Sunday and Monday, then the DVD comes out Tuesday. There's also a 12 minute preview of the fifth episode, which won't be broadcast until the week after the DVD is in the stores. A nice experiment to see if they can combat those bittorrent fans.

A lot of people - myself included - do not have a TV, let alone cable or satellite. Some buy DVDs of shows they like once they come out, others torrent them for free. Imagine this:Three friends like the same show. One has a TV and cable and watches the show the night it airs. Another has no TV but torrents the show a couple of days after it's aired. The last friend has a TV, but no cable, and buys the shows legitimately once they come out on DVD. The first two friends will get to discuss the episodes shortly after they air throughout the season, while the remaining friend will only get the joke nearly a year later. Eventually, the first two stop hanging out with the last friend because they can't talk about things they like without the other friend complaining, with the inevitable result of the left out friend having no friends at all even after they did everything right (by copyright standards, at least). This way allows those with either no TV or no cable to still discuss and watch their favourite shows without the temptation of mindless zombie TV.

If you don't tell me where the DVDs are in the next 10 seconds, I will shove this rag down your throat and drown you with your own stomach acid, you son of a bitch...

@ddfall: You are absolutely right. Sometimes it feels like these people know absolutely nothing about marketing or basic economics (lower price, more sales). If they are so concered about the North American pirating community, they should go after it aggressively like they did in China buy lowering the prices significantly.Movies seem like such an easy target because the pre-DVD-rip Cam versions are so very bad. Let people make impulse decisions like buying the DVD or a voucher for online download right after the movie and you capitalize on that impulsive consumer spirit.

Yay!!We will be able to download 4 episodes, in better quality, at least a week before they air. Thanks Fox, that's a nice gift for the bit-torrent fans of the show who never get TV shows first.Unless it's a trap!!...

Humm, I actually read this and thought maybe. To be honest the reason i archive my 24 with XviD's is because I have to wait so long for the official DVD. If they said they would be putting out the disc in a normal (FASTER) rate. I would be sold on buying the set easily, maybe even for a small premium.

EVERYONE can stop complaining about the price because it's virtually guaranteed that with an MSRP of $14.99 places like DeepdiscountDVD are gonna have it for about $10, maybe less.

can't stand the ads, find it annoying to fast forward with dvr when I know newsgroups will have shortly after it airs with all ads cut out and no distractions what so ever
