once you realize the wonders of timeshifting via TiVo/On-Demand/iTunes you will never again think "oh, it's time to stop what i am doing because the TV has a show i might want to watch. a lot of us are just way too busy to plan our schedules around something as stupid as TV. personally, there are only a few shows i watch, and generally do not care enough to even pay $1.99 for them, but i might TiVo it or watch them On Demand. it's crazy, to me, that on my cable (Comcast) i have always had to pay 99¢ to watch (rent?) an episode of The Office, or almost any other NBC show, for 24 hours. that makes the $1.99 price seem reasonable if it means i own it. if that option is no longer there (as a Mac user) i will probably give up on watching the shows i don't TiVo. if i do TiVo them, i will be sure to skip the commercials.
This brings up an interesting point that I'm sure NBC does not want to really open. All of the content providers also need distribution. Sometimes content providers don't distribute their content on networks that they own. House is one such show. This is a complicated schema of the entertainment business. NBC Uni comes up with a show that they know will be a hit, but does not match other show one their own network, so they sell it to Fox. Fox like it because House fits their demographic. You ask, "Who cares!?" Well no one, until things like this start to happen. How will the public react? Will we become more brand aware of where show are produced? Less attached to the distributor? Tell me, do you give a rip which movie house produced and/or distributed the last movie you watched? NO! But you may attribute a show to a TV network more easily; for instance I still remember that Seinfeld was on NBC. Will that change now that I get everything off iTunes? Or will it never matter when I get everything off Bitorrent?
