wired.com — Former National Security Agency director Bobby Ray Inman lashed out at the Bush administration Monday night over its continued use of warrantless domestic wiretaps. Inman said "We can do what the country needs and work within the law." implying that the law is not currently being followed.

@zombieFlanders You bring up a good point regarding why he wasn't impeached over this (and won't be I might add)1.. He recently appointed the attorney general (his second choice for crony after his highly qualified personal lawyer)2. It's would make Americans look pretty stupid to the world if they kick out the President for being incompetent (he truly is) after spending 500 BILLION tax dollars creating terrorists in Iraq. (Ummmm.... I mean fighting terrorsts)

@bastardoperator You know I tried for the longest time not to make this topic political and just deal with the issue at hand (all politicians are basically self-righteous power mongering troublemakers... it goes with the territory). However I see we need to be sure next election that Republicans are soundly defeated. I'm all for smaller less intrusive government (less services, less police and more respect for your neighbor because "the great leader" isn't going to babysit you) Unfortunately despite the alleged ideology, in practice the current crop of Republicans have proven to be quite incompetent at this and don't serve global or even American interests. I don't like to judge people because who am I to judge. However after 5-6 years (and no end in sight) of war, greed, rhetoric, spying, massive debts, deterioration of our environment, elitist Aryan-like arrogance, terrible foreign relations and people saying idiotic things like binding a man, stripping him naked, getting him to masturbate, piling him on his buddies, dunking his head in water and threatening to kill him.... isn't torture and is necessary to "protect" righteousness. Therefore you shouldn't be too surprised when one of them now wants to redefine the word "search". Although I'm furious at these clowns... I have no ill will towards any of them, They can't help viewing everyone and everything through Bugs Bunny glasses because our leaders (whom they admirably trust) are feeding them a constant stream of bullsh~t. However if all these disasters and compromises of our values is the "better" world we are building for ourselves, simply put I'd take my chances with the alternatives. Democrat... Libertarian.... Independent....whatever. Anything but "I cut stem cell research because of intelligent design" fundies will do at this point as my standards and expectations have hit incredibly low standards..

I believe many of you missed the point that bluto20 was attempting to make. I believe bluto20's point was that on the main (really important) issues the Ds and Rs agree ... and they disagree on the minor issues (abortion immigration)Though I do not nessecarally agree with bluto20 .... I think that was the point of bluto20's post.

@diggscreenname"you see the democrats as an answer for the problems of overspending and intrusive government?"Who said that? I just finished saying vote anyone BUT Republicans. Heck vote Libetarian if you wish. Despite my cynicism of politicians everywhere, every administration is different so saying "every Democrat" or "every Republican" is goiing to f~ck up is usually a sign of someone that is biased. Believe me when I say I'm no fan of many of Clinton's actions but he didn't run up hundreds of billions in debt or destroy Americas international reputation. (which is very important if you wish to create REAL friends in this world!)Obviously somewhere along the line there were Republican and Democrat Presidents that knew what the hell they were doing running a government. Most Republicans kooks today aren't among them. The main reason why the Republicans must be booted next election is because we are dealing with known quantites of proven incompetence. Don't continue to be manipulated by the same fear mongering that they used to tell you "invade Iraq because they have WMDs", "oouuu the economy will collapse if we create laws regulating fossil emiissions", "we need to torture adversaries to protect goodness or them A-rabs are going to get you" and the infamours "they're trying to destroy our way of life so to protect it... lets destroy it first". Are these the values you were brought up with? No offense bro they have made such a mess of things that indeed a normal war may be on the horizon but the war on terrorism so far is far more analogous to the cold war not WW2 . The NSA found no need to spy on Americans against a fully armed Soviet Union then so don't tell me that suddenly we need to do that now or else the world will end .And now even a former NSA director has come forward to say the same thing. Of course all the fundies have buried this story.... how surprising. It's Ok though... the next election the people are going to speak.

The problem is the media has become neutered and won't educate the populace on these issues. They'd rather run stories on Brittney Spears than the elimination of peoples basic constitutional rights. One way to fix this; the only way IMO, is by first and foremost, getting the Fairness Doctrine reinstated. This gave the people a right to have equal time in the media and since the major networks are operating with public licenses, it demanded they cover news of interest to their audience. Ronald Reagan destroyed the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 and since then, things have been going downhill. The F.D. must be reinstated or else you cannot reach the public to rally them to effect change.More details:http://bsalert.com/artsearch.php?fn=2&as=354&dt=1
