Perhaps it has something to do with being the last American auto maker, and not taking bailout money?

My Dodge's have outlasted my Toyota's, so I'll stick with them. My sister-in law has been a strict Ford owner, and all of them have petered out at about 130k miles.

Actually, you're right. Ford is close enough now that it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Maybe in 3 years, we'll see data showing that Ford has completely caught up. These days, the jabs for reliability should be taken at VW and Chrysler really. Still, it just irks me when people bring up those quality ratings as if they mean something. And I'm not sure what you're getting at Bonestamp. Toyota has had less recalls and safety complaints than most other large automakers.

@WranglerYa, you're right... Toyota hasn't done as many recalls as the other manufacturers. But that's not always a good thing either.

Bulls**t. I'll take a free GM car. You wouldn't even have to pay me but you can do so if you like.

Ford as a whole has above average reliability. As a standout, Consumer Reports rates the Fusion as MORE reliable than Camry and Accord. Consumer reports rates Ford as comparable to Toyota and Honda.Ford Fusion Hybrid was MotorTrends car of the year and named to C&D's ten best.

It's more clear than ever that Toyota did not just catch a bad break. This mess was almost a decade in the making. Check out the stat data on NPR's website and it will be painfully obvious how much this company was hiding.
