nwfdailynews.com— The gas cap, long left sitting on trunk lids or dangling from cars as they leave gas stations, will become a thing of the past on many Ford Motor Co. models in the coming years.

I have a better idea Ford, let's do away with oil-based fuel period. Let's use electricity.Go see the movie, "Who Killed The Electric Car" and you'll see what I'm talking about.
What I do use wedge the fuel cap into the trigger of the pump so that it becomes hands free. Then I can walk around the car and wipe off bird poop or inspect the tires, that sort of thing. Guaranteed not to forget the cap afterwards too!
Does anyone actually forget to put the cap back on? Is it really that hard that Ford needs to create some innovative new gas-flap to stop us from absent-mindedly driving off, our gas caps flapping in the wind?
I wonder if Renault will be pissed. They've had this for a few years now, I first saw it on the Megane (the one with the big butt). First time I saw it I wondered why it had not been done before, and who will be next implementing it. Not only does it help stop you from losing your cap (my last three cars have all been attached via a little rubberised doohicky thinggymabob) but for people who have cars like diesels, will save them from having to get grimy when undoing it (should it ever get fuel residue on it)
Another stupid invention to fix dumb lazy Americans who cant remember to 1) Put on their seatbelt - oh lets have a device that automates that for you - (what?) In Australia its ILLEGAL to drive without a seatbelt - a very good law - but in America where many people get killed without seatbelts - no, most states dont make it law! - geeez - how bloody stupid ! 2) Remember to put the filler cap back on - gee how stupid are you Americans? I have never done this - and we dont have a law for that here - hmmm..
If you remember correctly the tires were fine. They just weren't used within the given design specifications. They were underinflated so that the Explorer would pass the govt test for rollovers.

Except you never have to clean it out and it doesn't get all crusted with old lube.
