green.autoblog.com — Ford vehicles are now 85 percent recyclable by weight. In 2009, Ford saved approximately $4.5 million by using recycled materials, and diverted between 25 and 30 million pounds of plastic from landfills in North America alone.

even plastics can be recycled to within certain tolerances, and as i said the design (should) takes those tolerances into account.

Automobiles - More than 13.5 million cars were recycled in 2003, a little more than the number of new cars produced.I didn't find more recent numbers. You mention the world, of course, and this was an American figure, I believe. So yes, there's room for improvement worldwide. Keep in mind that a lot of junk yards in America are there so people can buy parts before the vehicle is melted down. We have a place near us where you can go in and by the obvious parts that people want or pay a flat fee to go in the yard and search for a less obvious part and remove it yourself.
