I love when people digg me down and offer no opinion of their own.

I've lived in a number of areas with a lot of different grocery stores and Dominicks and Jewel are the WORST. I always seem to spend an arm and a leg in Jewel and come out with way less than any other place I shop.

I'm also in Chicago and keep having people tell me to try a farmer's market. Fine. I will. Where the f**k are they?

Wild Salmon?

Where I live, the people go to the seafood place and walk out with well over 50 in crab legs every time they get their food stamps. Just another system that gets abused.

How much less could you care?

Not all areas have a local farmers market, I know that we don't. In many areas that have farmers markets, they are seasonal and are closed during the winter. The prices for produce at my local Whole Foods is comparable to the prices for produce at my local Safeway store. We have a couple of local Korean grocery stores with large produce and fresh (even live) fish departments that are considerably cheaper and have a wider selection than Whole Foods and Safeway.

over priced food for over inflated ego's. If you are on assistance then save $ and shop at a reasonable store.

Apples should last a good month in the refrigerator, and a week or two at room temperature. And even if they do start to get old, a few minutes on the stove with some cinnamon and brown sugar and you've got applesauce.

Unfortunately the link doesn't take me to the article, BUT I see no need for this to be decried. Americans spend the least amount of their income on food ever in our history, and meanwhile we pay premiums for useless things that didn't even used to exist, like ringtones. If anything I think foodstamps should be even more widely available in order to allow us to break our addiction to highly processed, corporate phony foods that are destroying American health and Agriculture.

Whole Foods? Forget that. I have a better one for you. Its one mile from the US Capitol, where our congressmen sit, making these laws. The SE Waterfront Warf. Go there and you'll see people buying $32 per lb Alaska King Crab legs and $19.99 Jumbo Shrimp with food stamps. I work 2 jobs and go there to buy some small shrimp and maybe some snow crab legs if I saved enough during that month. But I sit in line behind someone buying all these expensive delicacies and then watch them pay with food stamps. I'm glad I worked a few hours for them that week, aren't you?

I would rather people spend their money on quality food that might be good for them but cost more than those people who fill their shopping card with potato chips, frozen pizzas, frozen tv dinners, etc.
