He has to sign it into law. Congress can override him but only with a 2/3rds majority. I don't think I need to point out that the current Republican president and the current Republican presidential nominee both support the bailouts (along with the Democratic nominee). I think the mistake you're making is that you think the president has less power than he actually does. The executive is a huge role in the government.

I don't think this is so much about whether or not McCain has the rights to use "My Hero", since he doesn't need the Foos' explicit permission to use it.The Foo Fighters just want to let the public know that they don't want to be associated with, nor do they support McCain. I just hope he uses a song by R.E.M. next - Michael Stipe would rip him apart for it.

here is my question, When will republican politicians stop useing songs of bands that hate them for there campaign? In 1984 Bruce Springstein asked Reagan to stop using "born in the usa". in 2000 Tom Petty thretened to sue Bush for useing his song "I wont back down". I dont feel like listing them all but this is nothing new. Rock music seems to be on the democratic side.

Many publishing contracts specifically have a clause where the writer can opt-out of political endorsement and advertising for cigarettes and alcohol. It's not just a money thing. These songs often backfire. Campaigners should do a little calling before using music.
