angelfire.com — So which fonts are installed on everyone?s computers? Your best bets are the ones that come with the Internet Explorer (MSIE) browser and the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. What about fonts on non windows platforms? People need to stop thinking of the internet as a PC only based technology, as time goes on the internet will exist on platforms and in ways that we can’t even think of yet. Keep to the standards!

You don't need a damned guide. It's real simple: basic fonts only since not everyone will have the files necessary; if you want to have it a special font, make it a picture. That was a sentence. And I didn't need to pay a webserver to host it either.

Isn't this the reason that CSS has the 'font-family' directive?

Yes. Any competent webmaster doesn't need a guide.
