youtube.com — "The IAF (Israeli Air Force) contacted McDonnel Douglas and asked for information about possibility to land an F-15 with one wing . MD replied that this is aerodynamically impossible, as confirmed by computer simulations... Then they received the photo...."

@ xofc - You can't auto rotate with half of you flight surface missing nor could you fly fast enough to make up for it. Fixed wing rule!

"Or do you think every F15 comes equipped with a complete set of TV cameras - just in case something good happens."Yeah, I do. They probably have them installed during training exercises to review later for mistakes and the like.

At least with all that emergency landing he wasn't able to complete his mission of bombing some apartment buildings, residential neighborhoods, and the UN. We need to stop giving these people weapons.

It just doesn't have the same flow if you change "plane" to "air superiority fighter".

Can someone explain why, after watching the video, the two videos that come up are the too that are also in the first page of digg. Is digg affecting youtube or is youtube affecting digg. Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a huge correlation between the two sites?

FirefigherBlu3, I wasn't calling the whole story BS, I just had a problem with the hook part of it. Since you state including the hook is a standard practice in the design of fighers, I bow to your experience and withdraw my objection.

@pallaromp - Actually the MIG was faster I think, flat out. Of course when the Russians had all the speed records they just happened to omit the fact that when they set them the plane basically ate itself. Meaning, when they ran it balls-to-the-wall they had to change the engines afterwards.

McDonnell Douglas attributes the saving of this aircraft to the amount of lift generated by the engine intake/body and "a hell of a good pilot". ISRAELI PILOTS ARE VERY VERY GOOD!
