cnn.com— Francisco Rodriguez owes more than $10,000 in back child support payments in a paternity case involving a 15-year-old girl who, according to DNA results and the girl's mother, is not his daughter. Huh??

Do you know why we'll never have mandatory paternity testing of all births? Because women will simply not allow it. Ever. At all. Under any circumstances.(Well, that and it would be very expensive, but that will be less of an issue as technology improves.)
Men, pay attention. Always get a paternity test immediately after birth. You can use epithelial cells and it will be painless to the baby and no one needs to know. Don't tell the woman unless it is not yours. If it isn't then decide how you want to handle it. Don't wait 12 years. Don't raise another man's baby (this is WAY more common than most men think).
Sorry, Rainemaker, but this is REALITY. Your hypothetical bears no relationship to reality as it exists in family courts in EVERY STATE in the United States. The REALITY is that this happens to fathers EVERY DAY, in EVERY STATE, not just Florida. And not only does your wishful thinking about Mr. Rodriguez's case not reflect reality, it's positively insulting to the THOUSANDS of fathers ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES who suffer from this kind of fraud.
In my case I was married to my wife while she was pregnant with another mans baby. While I was away on deployment she had several affairs and one affair happened to blow up in her face. Fortunatley for me the supposed biological father stepped up to claim the baby, so the court assumed responsibility for the DNA charges. There are ways to have the courts pay for the DNA test, but it can cost around 1000 dollars. One may option for a DNA test while the fetus is still in the uterus, but it is even more expensive. Men...please do not be discouraged in court, because it makes you look weak. There are just as many unfit mothers as there are fathers, and the courts are finally beginning to realize this fact. Modern fathers are proving that "mothering" is no longer strictly a womens domain. I have full custody of my son to prove it. Never give up on your children, especially if you are the better parent.
I agree with you devlindark, I've have/had a similar situation where the mother disappeared from Michigan after my son was born, and resurfaced in Florida 2 years later petitioning the courts for support. She was granted it retro-acted back to the day he was born. What is even worse is the red-tape dealing with visitation rights amongst other pressing issues until this very day. I think thank that raising a child is a two parent responsibility; however, our current system really needs to be revamped and restructured for the success of the family at large and not the bureaucrats pocket books.
I agree that child custody and visitation should be divided fairly, except for those situations where there is abuse, be it from the father or the mother. Speaking from my own situation, my right as a father has been ripped from me years ago, and the right to fair representation, my constitutional rights are constantly violated by the courts. The last I've seen my boy he was an infant newly born, and now he is fifteen years of age, yet I am forced to pay support for my boy without even getting to know him and watch him grow up.
Did you know that even if you are disabled the courts will still come after you for child support, in fact it doesn't matter what state of mind you are in they will even take your social security to pay for child support.
No call me crazy!but aint that selfish for the mother to let her child believe this is her father after all these years without just telling the truth. These women are so skank and embarresed about there permiscus ways but thier just as much as fault as the father.boy these woman have it good then they want to complain.Dont get me wrong i believe a man should pay child support if the child is his but the way the system is its just sexest and set up to just get money from a man because some hurt sexest politition wanted to get even its a joke and the laws should be rewrote.
yea right you have to be joking or just plain stupid!which one?Shouldnt you be directing your energy, anger and obvious hands on experience toward the biological father and the mother. This was a innocent man and just cause hes there and convenient its ok to go after him! you woman are a joke then they wonder why they get called whores.then you bring this poor child story in to try to make the man feel bad about being there for this child for 12 years and goin out of his way. giving money out of his pocket and having a relationship with this child that he,his family, his friends thought was his.i could only imagine how that mans life got turned upside down.the mother should be sued for emotional destress and more,im tired of this woman victim crap.

"devlindark": Sad to say, you are not alone in that situation. I'm facing a similar one, with similar feelings...good luck...

child support is not for the best interest of the child...but the best interest of the state. All they care about is the money.
