vgrc.net — While the whole gaming world is focused on the next generation of gaming, with high-powered consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3, and grand innovations like the Revolution, one can't help but reflect on days of our childhood. How many of these gems can YOU remember?

Ironically, I just laid out $70 last weekend for an NES rig from evilbay. It's the one "toy" from my childhood that I wish I still had.

The URL almost gave me a heart attack... I used to run this little game review site called the Video Game Review Center (VGRC), so when I saw vgrc.net, I thought maybe someone resurrected it or something... not that anyone really cares...

I'm 27 and my brother is 13. I've always been a god to him at video games. I can still kick his ass as Halo 2, but I gave him my Xbox and haven't played for months. I realized he is starting to get halfway decent, and I rue the day he beats me at a first person shooter. Well, there's always Quake 3...On another note, I downloaded Punch Out and ran it on an emulator and discovered that I suck now. I can't even get past Sandman!!! WTF!? I'm pretty sure the emulator is running too fast, or something. I can't be that much worse... when I was a kid I beat Tyson at will.

Gotta pay homage to SMB3. God that game was awesome. I mean, SMW definitely perfected the formula, but out of all the NES games that came and went, SMB3 was so polished and so deep. I got into SNES too, but it was kind of the harbringer of the 3d gaming revolution with its extra graphics processors (F-Zero and Pilotwings anybody?). I feel like 3d kind of ruined console gaming.I mean when I first saw Wolfenstein 3d I was as amazed as the next guy, and first person shooters are awesome, but now it's like every single game has to be 3d. Some games like Metal Gear Solid manage to meticulously craft the gameplay so you can still get some of that platform feel, but by and large games today are all 3d mush.Of course I'm old and curmudgeonly now. I don't even own a console anymore, so I should probably shut up.

I dugg the article even though it had no mention of any Amiga games. Prince of Persia on the Amiga ruled back in 1990! I still find it difficult to believe I first played that game 16 years ago.... a scary thought indeed.

Streets of Rage was the best. Aside from hours of playing it, I used to have my genesis hooked up to my stereo, and I'd rock out to the soundtrack in my bedroom!

i remember my parents got me a Atari 2600 for Christmas the year it came out I think they paid like 400 for the thing had two controllers, paddles and maybe 3 games. i couldn't believe the graphics it had on it. it killed pong which we got when it first came out. i remember my friends would come over because i was the only one that had one and we would play that damn thing for hours. and you know what i still have the original one i got that day. wood grain and all the toggle switches still working.

I was poor growing up, I didn't get a NES until the early to mid 90's when you could go into a second hand store and pick one up for 5 bucks. The upside to this is the games are extremely cheap by this point too, I did play a lot of NES games... Mario 3, Dragon Warrior, Adventures of Kirby some of my favorites. I remember playing Nemo though, that was some weird s**t! Just think, kids these days think Nemo is a fish.....
