arstechnica.com — A new report from EDUCAUSE calls for a national broadband strategy that runs fiber past every home and business in the country and offers at least 100Mbps. We could have it all for $100 billion, and only two-thirds of that would have to come from taxes.

I don't like the use of the term "only" when describing something which is two thirds subsidised by taxation.I have no problems with the idea of taxation being used to provide the service in rural areas and to poor people, but I fail to see why the tax burden would be so high as a percentage.

The average already paid by all US taxpayers to the Telcos for fiber to the curb is $2000. How about they deliver!

Why bother? The service providers are just going to filter and throttle our content anyway.

You can buy a number of jets for 200 billion. Missiles are much less.

The ignorance and stupidity of the selfish idiots in this country will bankrupt us until our children are assembling toys for the Chinese!A broadband infrastructure would ignite entrepreneurship, the likes of which this country has never seen.More people working from home would further reduce the need for energy consumption. The entire Education Department would be eliminated in favor of a curriculum designed by educators, lessons would be Ala Carte, chosen by the students own interests and advancement. Classroom teaching would transform into an Education Attendant helping students choose Ala Carte lessons from the school servers. Parents would be involved guiding the courses for family members... and the best teachers in the country, whose lessons are downloaded and used the most would lead to the Millionaire Teacher becoming common in an Information Economy.I would go even further, End the Iraq Occupation and spend 100 Billion EACH YEAR for the next four years building a broadband infrastructure AND WIND AND SOLAR AND NUCLEAR ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE (removing the 'low-bid contract' system to eliminate cronyism) , MANDATE ELECTRIC AND HYBRID TRANSPORTATION and completely remove the USA from the International oil market. NOTHING IS GOING TO LOWER THE PRICE OF OIL EVER AGAIN! The government has been subsidizing our artificially low oil prices for the last thirty years, and the rest of the world has moved forward with alternative energy, information technology, and is now in position to shift the world's economy from the US Dollar to the Euro and the Chinese RMB.If we continue to kowtow to the ignorance of Economic and Technological Luddites that MISLEAD this country , we will be a third rate has-been wannabe 'superpower' within a decade. If you want Pride and Patriotism, how about getting off your asses and DO WHAT AMERICANS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO... LEAD THE WORLD!!!Instead, you keep voting for the same tired BULLs**t...
