claydawg.helpdesk.olemiss.edu — Security Patch 908531 can break Windows as we've all seen stories about in the past week. I just got off the phone with Microsoft and they emailed me specific fixes for specific software profiles that I haven't found anywhere else. So, here they are!

This is truly something that will hopefully benefit the Digg community. This is such a breath of fresh air compared to all of the self promoting, lame, or spam stuff I have been seeing lately.

All of my Visual Studio versions stopped working recently. This includes the 2003 and the 2005 express edition. An "unknown error" windows pop up when loading the program.Does anyone know if this is caused by this update? If it is; does anyone know of a fix?I really want to avoid nuking the hard drive and starting from backups.

In any environment where you are handling hundreds or thousands of Windows systems, yes you should set them to do automatic updates, but you should do it through Windows Software Update Services so someone always approves patches to all these systems after they are tested. Yes, you can have the best of both cases. Thank you Microsoft for making us go though these hoops.

Thanks for the heads up. I have 3 computers (between work and home) and this fix screwed up two of the three. I will give these a go. Thanks..

I had a guy come in our IT office and said his HP laptop keeps crashing and rebooting after he installed the recent updates. We assumed it was this problem, but it won't even boot into Windows for us to do anything about it.

No we don't have ERD Commander, but it looks like a nice piece of software, we might pick it up. Thanks!
