When I first read this article's title I was expecting to see a laptop with a second screen that would replace the keyboard. I think that would be neat because it would be completely customizable for any kind of application. What a dissapointment.
i will agree that it prob eats the battery, but from a developers stand point, pretty is not always the point.id rather have a killer desktop dual monitor solution, and a small portable notebook to carry on the plane that has killer battery life. and some software to sync the two. oh wait wait wait, im thinking of Macs, nevermind.
The point is not to just increase the resolution, but allow for better multi-tasking. For example, you could watch a movie in full screen on the primary monitor, and instant message on the secondary one. Even if the screen had better resolution, and you minimized the windows you wouldn't be able to watch your movie in full screen mode and instant message at the same time. Plus having to resize the Windows gets annoying.

It's still more screen space than you'd have otherwise...on the go, that is.
