wired.com — Tired of the United States and the other 190-odd nations on Earth? If a small team of Silicon Valley millionaires get their way, in a few years, you could have a new option for global citizenship: A permanent, quasi-sovereign nation floating in international waters.

She swam around with dolphins and stuff, and I think I remember Disney playing it in the mid 90's.No clue as to what the name of it was.

Only libertarians, no socialists, fascists, or whatever they're calling themselves today.

haven't you noticed recently that (with effort of Bush administration and Co) all post-WW2 achievements, like notion of jurisdiction and all other international quasi-legalese including UN, were technically made obsolete?

And what happens then? If an arrest warrant is issued for someone on a platform, the platform will have to either hand them over, or not. If they don't, then the country claiming jurisdiction will land a swat team or use another forceful means to take them into custody. We agree on this. Now what happens if the platform tries to fight them off? They have to kill a mainland government police officer. Which means they are going up against the full power and anger of the mainland police, who are equipped with such useful equipment as snipers and enough manpower to hold a blockade. This is no different from some criminal holeing themself up in their home and claiming the police have no jurisdiction - sooner or later, they will get in. Espicially if the criminal kills the first officer to attempt an arrest. Even if by some miracle the platform holds the police off, they will just escalate things - it is quite possible that the police will call on some tougher backup, and before too long this platform full of people armed with rifles and RPGs is going up against the navy's nearest unoccupied gunboat.
