We did not "JUST" start "podcasting." "Podcasting" is NOT new. The only thing "new" about it is the fact that somebody decided that prerecorded radio show just wasn't cool enough for them so they had to create a new term. People have been recording their own radio shows and making them available on the net since the net has been around. The same with "blogs." Blogs are nothing new. It's just that journal or diary wasn't catchy enough so some asshat pulled a new term from his hole and the clueless masses picked up on it like it was some new wonderous creation. Man, now I know how my parents felt when we started saying dude, rad, bitchin' etc.
I'll have to digg up the info, but i'm quite sure this isn't the first... I heard a podcast a few months back with the crew on the space station... it was regular phone interview, recorded and then posted on on the "space" related podcasts.
I bitched about the term podcasting, that is, until someone asked me to come up with a better name. And they have a point, there isn't much to call it without coming up with some ridiculous blog related name like 'blogcasting', as salmonmoose suggested.Ironically, I'd rather have my internet radio shows named after one of the best mp3 players on the market than have another moronic blog related term coined. Besides, I think calling it podcasting was a brilliant move. It made Apple want to jump on the bandwagon, seeing as it was named after their product, and it's allowed a much broader audience (70% of the mp3 player market) to have direct access to podcasts through iTunes. If not for the name 'podcast', I doubt that it would be as popular or as accessible as it has become. And we wouldn't have had ABC news there to grab beer for the diggnation guys.

Ok if you hate so much the term podcasting, give us a better alternative than recorded radio shows from the internet.
