dechah -WHAT indications? That's my problem here... there's no reviews, no one's heard the thing yet. Okay, so a lot of people don't like how it looks, but that is inherently subjective. I've seen the Bose Sound Dock, and I like the look of the HiFi better. The Bose looks "slicker" but it also draws more attention to itself.I just think people should reserve judgment until there's some reviews out and until the thing is available for listening. I guess I just don't see why the thing has met with such vehement objection - I mean, yeah, its nothing ground breaking - its just a higher end "boom box" option for the iPod, with a few bonuses thrown in - but I don't see how "not ground breaking" is the same as "steaming pile of crap."Personally, to me, the HiFi looks like a good product, though clearly for a niche market. I'm more upset at how Apple stuck crappy Intel integrated video in the new minis - a large blemish on an otherwise significant update to the machine.
OK, since the sound of the Logitech Z-2300 was one of the speaker systems thrown around as having much better frequency response, I went out and pulled down some actual audio test results for that system. As thyratron stated so well in several posts, "frequency response" doesn't mean a whole lot if you don't have a spec for amplitude variation over that range. See for yourself at www.macintouch.com/speakers01/review.htmlThe bottom line is, for this specific example, the Logitech's frequency response curve from 20Hz to 20kHz varies from about -9dB to +20dB! If you actually try and pick a range about which the variation is no greater than +/-3dB, you would have to choose +14dB to +20dB. From the looks of the graph, that would give it a frequency response of about 80Hz to 11kHz.Not so impressive anymore, huh? This Apple product may not sound that great, although it may based on some of the preliminary reviews I've seen. But you would have to hear it for yourself before passing judgement, especially judgement grounded in some competitor's wildly inflated specs.
re jie55's comment about the micropod pricing: no, that's ?239 (pounds sterling), which as of today is about $415, before shipping, so it is NOT < Apple Hi-Fi
