Speaking of more and more seriously, it may well be that "666" wasn't as popularly known at the time. Remember that prior to easy access to the Internet even an interested person had to search actively to find fringe opinion. If you didn't have a relative or teacher who was convinced that a secret international conspiracy of satanists was behind Procter and Gamble, and you'd never encountered the right Chick Tract in the local laundromat, and you hadn't seen The Omen, the whole anti-Christ thing wouldn't even be a rumour.(There was no Snopes, either, so you might go years believing that AC/DC really stood for "Anti-Christ/Devil's Children" if you believed the wrong solemnly whispered gossip.)

$666 in today's dollars would be $2500 (using <a class="user" href="http://www.halfhill.com/inflation.html)">http://www.halfhill.com/inflation.html)</a>
