news.com.com — Adtech discovered that IE users are four times more likely to click on an ad than firefox users. Please debate why you think this is so in the comments below? Are firefox users more tech-knowledgable and therefore less likely to ad click?

or, possibly IE users are less likely to click an ad because the user is 8x more likely to be an IE user than a ff user.that means all you former linux "my dick is larger than yours because i use linux" idiots are more likley to click an ad than an IE user.f**k i hate idiots

This is a bad lead to jump on. IE users are 4 times more likely to click an ad because they are shown ads alot. Firefox has built in popup protection plus almost everyone uses Adblock. No crap as to why IE users click more ads.

How do you know the data is flawed?mabey they simply put 20 fireFox users, and 20 IE users in a Lab, let them browse the same web site. Then suddenly pop up the same ad on these users' computers, then see how many IE and fireFox users would click it.

Yes... this is what we call the "IE Ghetto Effect".

The whole ad dependency thing's a screwed up 90's construct anyhow.1. Were the IE users times as likely to purchase something or were they mostly low quality empty clicks?2. Is it supposed to be considered honorable to click on an ad link with no interest or intention of buying solely for the purpose of generating "clicks" to benefit a website through paid advertising?3. Might there be other ways to fund sites besides luring users off to different sites in the hopes they might buy something there?4. If intrusive, manipulative, and often obnoxious come-ons weren't constantly being crammed onto our otherwise useful views, could the web survive? It's an artificial mindset we're in, thinking that only ads could possibly drive the internet. Economics of any sort is driven by people providing a useful service for other people that want or need it, and the usefulness of ads and clicks is waning. When I want to buy something, I search for it. If I visit a site, it's because I'm interested in it's content. Ads try to subvert that interest. Adblock undoes that damage by subverting those ads. I'm all for it. If the current model breaks down, people will simply change their strategies somehow to survive. Even if ads still pay the rent, maybe sites will provide a non-intrusive venue for ads they hand-picked from a repository because they were funny, informative, topical, or of other noteworthy value. Is it so outlandish to think of ourselves actually looking at ads intentionally when we're in a buying mood?

It has nothing to do with being more tech-knowledgeable. Firefox users are not retards. Does that clear things up a bit?

1st off, if you want to show me ads, make them text ads, and I won't block them. Like google, I never block their ads. In fact, I have used a few. They are relevant and usefull. Take a lesson from google and you'll make more money!
