betanews.com — The open source browser commands a 15.82 percent usage share in the United States, and a whopping 39.02 percent in Germany. Australians are also big Firefox users, with the browser holding 24.23 percent of the market down under.

@walterd93 Maybe he meant the layout and rendering. I think everything about it is ugly. I was an Opera user for 2 years. Firefox came out and I just wanted to test it. I didnt even realize when I switched.

Except the UK? That's still part of Europe right?Anyway, internet was a US invention people. Stop arguing about this. Tim Berners-Lee didn't even come up with HTML, but pushed forward TP part of HTTP, the protocol, the HT part being invented by someone else already. One day he was browsing a document that utilized hypertext, and figured, "Hey, why can't these links point to stuff on another networked computer and not just my computer?" Commendable but that's about it. If it wasn't him, someone else would have made this connection rather soon.

"Why have I avoided Opera? Same reason many people don't vote for a 3rd party in an election. In order to fight the market leader, it's important to throw your weight behind the underdog who can put up the best fight. And right now that's Firefox."Wow that's flawed thinking. On the note of elections, vote for who you want to win, not who everyone else is voting for.Goddamn sheep.

I believe it... I run a nofx site (wiki & message board mainly) and google analytics tells me that 50.20% who visit the message board use Firefox, 97.03% windows users total, and generally these are not technical people. IE is at 45.77% so it's not like it's going away, but clearly firefox is gaining. most of the people on the board surf a lot, so that may be part of it.the wiki gets 58.72% IE and 34.18% firefox, which is still high. maybe this just means nofx fans are generally sensible... ha, j/k. ;-) (link omitted because assh**es here think any link is spam, if you find the site add /stats to see s**tty webalizer stats)

Gooooooooo FireFox! I've never been happier with another browser! I try to get as many of my friends and family to use FF, and since it's so easy to switch, most of them don't mind. But, I heard Opera was better for dial-up connections.

Oh cool. 15%. This dosn't help what so ever. It would be different if it said 30%.Sorry, once IE7(vista) rolls out it will jump down signicantly. If you think im wrong, go get a f**king masters degree and call me.

I say that Dell and HP/Compaq make Firefox an OEM piece of software. IE is gonna be in trouble.

"Opera follows a valiant, but flawed, idea that by forcing compliance, the world will comply."No, it does not. If that was the case, then no sites would work in Opera. The fact is that Opera has been created with flawed web page code in mind. Most broken sites today are caused by browser sniffing and browser discrimination rather than the ability to handle buggy HTML.

@CBTF: You said "Wow that's flawed thinking. On the note of elections, vote for who you want to win, not who everyone else is voting for.Goddamn sheep." in my post that "many people don't vote for a 3rd party in an election."Not sure what part you think is flawed thinking. If you disagree with me that MANY PEOPLE (not including myself) vote that way, I think you should google that. There has been a lot of research done on the problems with two-party elections and systems to overcome those problems. If you think that many people are flawed for voting that way, I agree. But that's reality. If you think that *I* am flawed for installing Firefox and not Opera, well, think of it this way - the choice is an investment in time. Download time, learning curve, setting preferences, etc. Why waste that time on something that THE MARKET isn't endorsing!? I don't know about you, but time = money for me. I don't have a lot to waste. So pick one with the knowledge and research (INCLUDING which browser *others* are endorsing), and go with it. I don't have time to screw with another browser, that may or may not have a marginal benefit over Firefox. Sure, if you can research every one of life's decisions, you may choose to do that. But hell, I have bigger fish to fry! What's the market's preference for altrnative browser - let's go with it until I have a reason not to.Thanks anyway Opera!
