blog.mozilla.com — Stephen Colbert gave Firefox 3 his ?Colbert Bump? on the day of Firefox 3?s launch. We looked at downloads of Firefox 3 by users within the U.S. ? to see what, if anything, could be detected. At minute 23 of the broadcast, Colbert said, ?Firefox 3 just got the Colbert Bump.? Guess what happened next...

Sure it helped out 20 minutes but it didn't have an impact on the overall average of downloads. The curve maintained it's predictable shape.

There were some petitions which perhaps got some more signatures through digg, the people within digg are bitching around but perhaps notice that there are some different points of view not that they would try to imagine them but admitting that there are some. I for myself got news that i wouldn't if i only rely on the normal TV channels, but i couldn't say what effect it overall had other then in my RL conversations having some unusual facts at hand. I don't know if that is enough to make a difference and change the world for the better or the worse.

For those interested in Johnathan Zittrane's Future of the Internet and How To Stop It, there is a great youtube video [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEsmw7jpODc] (warning, 59 minutes long!) which covers not only recent digital laws but how things use to be, how things are, and where we're headed if we don't do something about computer security in the common home.
