The issue is not extensions in of themselves or how many you run, it's that some specific extensions are well known to exacerbate the memory leak and bloat the browser memcache when run for long periods. I was talking to some of the techs in the firefox support irc channel about this and apparently rogue extensions are the greatest cause of malfunction.
