payphone-project.com — Click on a state name or enter a zip code to see a list of US Postal Service collection stations (blue mailboxes) in that area. Every listing contains location information (most with maps) and scheduled pick-up times for that mailbox.

I have been looking for something like this, too. I have searched the USPS.com site for mailbox locations many times with no results. How can the Postal Service NOT list remote mailbox locations? Ridiculous. It must be easier to raise the price of stamps.

Already posted two hours before this one: http://digg.com/world_news/Find_Your_Nearest_MailboxOh yeah, and that link works too.So, what's up with digg? How do I post the same story, earlier, and get three hits? This one makes the front page.

muchocheeto: I don't know about where you live, but at my house the mailman picks up my Netflix returns from my mailbox, so I only have to walk 20 feet from my front door to mail them. The only time I've ever used a USPS mailbox is when mailing a postcard while on vacation.

Hmm. there does seem to be something wrong. For me it says the nearest USPS mailbox is 500 kilometers away, and the next pickup is... 21/04/2009?!?

Is this exactly the kind of information the terrorists are looking for?(I think I'm kidding, not that that would keep our administration from removing access to the site in the name of security.)

There are none around here anymore. They removed every single mailbox in the entire county and surrounding counties after 9/11.I complained to the post master and he said they were removed because it wasn't economical to drive around and pick up from them.Bulls**t. Like the one at the grocery store. The postman drives up to the grocery store every day, parks out front and walks in to deliver their mail, along with the mail to the other stores in the little shopping strip. He has to walk past the outdoor mailbox every day.I think the real reason they removed them is because of unfounded FEAR and maybe because of vandals, but most likely just from bulls**t fear. Now everyone in the area has to drive (burn gas and make pollution) and make a giant clusterf*ck in the post office parking lot.Boy, thats great eh? One truck that went past the mailboxes anyway versus hundreds of cars that must now drive to the post office, burn gas and make pollution. Wait, that sounds like a vast right wing conspiracy to make us buy more gas!

Blue streetside mailboxes still have a place in areas with commercial businesses that need to send out mail at the end of the day, or people who live in apartment buildings that don't have an outgoing mail slot.
