Someone just needs to come out with a damn GoogleTV type service that includes my local channels and lets me pick 5-10 cable channels. I'll up my internet service as long as I don't have to pay the $50/month for basic non-HD cable.
I couldn't believe how much of the playoffs were on VS. We don't get it in HD. There is so much that isn't in HD... =( And then there was the debacle of Comcast cutting to commercial 30 seconds before the end of the Philly/Boston game. Cable companies need to do a lot more than simply have the cable guy show up on time.
I know I'm getting buried for this one by all the cable haters, but I am speaking from experience. The cable technicians of today are nothing like they were years ago.I have many dealings with Comcast techs (mind you this is very different than sub-contractors working under Comcast) through my business, and over the past year or so the people I have had to deal with have been prompt, are excellent at troubleshooting, and have followed up on their work. According to a couple of the techs I know, Comcast now has a 3 month training course called "Comcast University" that makes sure that when the techs hit the field they are trained in all the latest technology that the company has to offer, as well as the legacy hardware. They even make the veteran techs go back from time to time for re-training. I do not deal so much with Verizon, in their case it seems to have gotten better as well.It still pisses me off though. Because like the article said, it is only when they start losing customers is when big conglomerates begin to do things like this.
If my cable provider (Time Warner) wants to improve their service, the should get rid of the "tier" system of grouping their program services, where we end up paying for channels we don't want and never watch, and let customers choose and pay for only the channels they actually want.
That sounds like a decent solution... I'm closing on a condo any day now and not planning on getting cable tv. I'll have to remember that for next year.

Or you could just get NHL.com Game Center and use PlayOn to stream it to your tv. That's what I'll be doing next season.
