"And frankly- nothing is worth giving my freedom away for. I like owning DVDs. Renting blu-rays from the studios until they decide to disable the discs/my player? No thanks..."thats what downloading TS files are for :)and trust me...they look tons better than DVD.

"I have do disagree the jump from big tapes to cds were bigger than cds to bigger cds..... i think you take it up the ass from sony and microsoft... why else would you support this drm infested horror that is the hddvd and blue ray mess... holywood really fumbled the ball on this one!"DRM infested horror? Why should I care if it has DRM?1) The DRM will be defeated quickly2) I do not watch movies on my computer. I have a HDTV that will ultimately be hooked up to a Blu-Ray device. I will watch these movies in full-resolution. I have absolutely no intent on spending 5 days downloading 2 hours of HDTV material which I will then watch on my tiny 19" monitor when I have a 42" Grand Wega display to watch this stuff on.

Adjusting the brightness so that both HD and DVD were the same would have made a more effective comparison. Video-noobs usually always just pick the "brighter" picture. That's why in big box electronic stores, their TVs have the contrast/brightness turned to the upper end. If people actually looked at the blown-up screenshots and ignored the brightness difference, they'd be able to tell that the HD looks much better. And why wouldn't it, since DVD is 480p and HD is 720p or higher.

They definitely don't look right. That's looking more like the difference between VHS and HD.

You obviously have not seen HD, as you say it is "barely" noticable. One viewing and you will be hooked, trust me.

Though I must agree that there is a difference between HD and DVD I still feel like a bit of a pawn buying into HD so easily. Maybe im just paranoid but HD/Blu ray just seems like another way of people getting money out of us.

hate to tell you but this is complete BS.he upsampled the dvd (therefore making it look crappy)and at the same time DOWNSAMPLED the hd, then claimed it looked better, even at the dvd rezanyone who uses photoshop knows that picture ALWAYS looks better downsized, and if you try to make a low rez image to large, it looks crappyso basically he made the hd image look even betterand the sd one look even more crappya fairer comparison would be to upscale the dvd to the hd rez and then compareBOO!

The difference is night and day, I don't know how anyone can look at them side by side and say "the DVD version looks better" or "there's no difference". That's insane.

DVDs look great when playing, however they DO look this s**tty whenever you press pause.
