thinkprogress.org — Q: Do you think the war is eviscerating the economy?FEINGOLD: Oh, I think it has a huge impact. You talk about the resources, the ability to do things, programs that are actually stimulative to the economy. Everything is on the ropes. ... Twelve billion a month would be helpful to do some kind of stimulus.

Don't forget the /sarcasm tag. Diggers will honestly not get that your comment shouldn't be taken literally.

I don't think you can blame this on Iraq. The credit crunch is far more expensive because of its negative effects on finance.

I guess that means you didn't read the articles. Others will and they will see the connection. There were three different FISA bills put before the Senate. Two of them blocked retro-active immunity for the tel-cos, as well as warrantless domestic spying. Democrats rejected those two bills and instead brought up for a vote the one bill that offered both the things their party claimed to oppose, which Bush happened to be asking for. Do you still not see the connection? Bush says: "Give me my illegal goodies or I'll veto the bill I'm asking for!"Democrats say: "Don't do illegal things, or we're going to have to make them legal!" Have you not caught on to their little good-cop bad-cop routine yet? If not, I hope you're in the minority.

Ah, now I see where it is you're getting yourself tangled up.The Democratic leadership sets the agenda. They decide what gets heard and what doesn't. They decide what bill makes it through and which doesn't. They could have chosen the bills that excluded retro-active immunity, but instead they chose the one that included it.The leadership will not require that members up for re-election vote their way. They'll let them enjoy some political cover and let them stand against the bill. But in the end, the bills YOU object to will be passed because of the Democrat's consent. That is called political maneuvering. That is collusion.
